General Preferences

Use the General Preferences dialog to set Naming Options for your filenames and Ripping Offset options.

Naming Options

Use Track Name uses the name of the track to create the name of your MP3 file.

Advanced when selected, allows you to create a custom string for naming your MP3 file. You can use any text you like and combine with these variables:

%1 for artist name
%2 for album name
%3 for track number
%4 for track name
%5 for CDDB disk ID

For example, if you type the following in the Advanced field

Popsongs - [%1]_-_%4

your filename will include the artist name and album name such as

Popsongs - [Billy Idol]_-_White Wedding

If you use variable %5 for CDDB disk ID, you must query CDDB to obtain this information. When using variable %5, make sure that the Query CDDB option is selected in the CDDB/ID3 Preferences dialog.

Add type extension to filename (.mp3, .aif) when selected, automatically adds the correct filename extension to the file you create using AudioCatalyst. Note: Xing recommends that you use this option so Windows-based computers can recognize and play the files you create.

Artist as Folder specifies your WAV and MP3 files directory will be created using the Artist name as the directory.

Album as Folder specifies your WAV and MP3 files directory will be created using the Album name as the directory.

Delete Silence Automatically when selected, deletes any silence from the start and the end of the tracks. Use the Leading and Trailing Silence fields to define the amount of silence you want to keep.

Leading Silence keeps the defined amount of silence at the beginning of the track.

Trailing Silence keeps the defined amount of silence at the end of the track.

Rip Offset allows you to manually adjust AudioCatalyst to read a few frames earlier or later. Some CD-ROM drives exhibit problems finding the exact start/stop reading points on a CD (such as ripping error messages or artifacts in the beginning or end of the MP3 file). When this occurs, use the Rip Offset options.

Start Offset allows you to manually adjust AudioCatalyst to read a few frames earlier or later. A maximum of 150 frames can be specified (75 frames=1 second).

End Offset allows you to manually adjust AudioCatalyst to read a few frames earlier or later. A maximum of 150 frames can be specified (75 frames=1 second).

Discard first allows you to set an amount of frames to be read, but not used. A maximum of 100 frames can be specified. If your CD drive occasionally begins reading with a click, use the Discard first option.

Shorten last track 10 frames allows you to delete the last 10 frames from the last track. Some enhanced CD-ROM discs contain data after the last track. Sometimes this prevents AudioCatalyst from ripping the last track correctly. If this occurs, select the Shorten last track by 10 frames option.
